TwainDeviceService
The TwainDeviceService is mandatory for the operation of Kodak scanners. It is installed on the scanner (see Installing Embedded Client on Kodak Scanners) and has a web interface that can be accessed with a browser.

In a browser, specify the hostname of the device with port 8080 (http, unencrypted) or 8083 (https, encrypted), for example:
-
https://kss-51552398.company.com:8083
-
http://kss-51552398.company.com:8080
Then click Login and log in. The default login is (case sensitive username and password):
User name: Administrator
Password: admin
You can perform the functions below:

Check the function of the TwainDeviceService on the dashboard. If you see an error message on this page, the TwainDeviceService cannot be executed correctly. The dashboard can also be accessed without logging in.

The device information display shows the information below, for example.
Manufacturer: Eastman Kodak
Product name: KODAK Scanner: i2000
Serial number: 51552412
Twain version: 2.4
Driver version: 18.0

The TwainDeviceService log files are stored on the device.

In the TwainDeviceService interface, select Logging from the menu.

The following logging levels can be set. The more detailed the logging is set, the shorter the time period shown in the log files.
- Errors (ERROR)
- Warnings (WARNING)
- Information (INFO)
- Detailed (DEBUG)
- Very detailed (TRACE)

The View 30 log lines button displays the latest 30 log lines directly in the browser window.
The current log file can be downloaded using Download logfile. The current log file can grow to a maximum size of 10 MB and is then archived. A maximum of 5 archive files can be created. You can download all existing log files in a zip archive using the Download all logfiles button.

If you are familiar with the configuration of the TwainDeviceService, you can view or change the configuration.

In the TwainDeviceService interface, select Configuration from the menu.

The TwainDeviceService configuration is stored in the JSON format. The current configuration is displayed in the Json view area.
Use the Download service configuration button to download the current configuration as a text-based TwainDeviceService.config (JSON format). A changed configuration can be imported using Upload Service configuration. Restart the device after a configuration change.
Only make changes to the configuration if you understand the settings. A non-functional configuration will cause the TwainDeviceService to stop working correctly.

From the web interface you can stop or start the TwainDeviceService or refresh the view on the device.

In the TwainDeviceService interface, select Administration from the menu.

You can restart the TwainDeviceService using the Restart service button. You can also shut it down completely by selecting Shut Down Service (the service can then only be restarted by restarting the device).
You can refresh the browser view of the DeviceClient on the device using Refresh DeviceClient. The DeviceClient web page is reloaded (a user who may be logged in is logged out).

The TwainDeviceService can be used to restart, shut down or put the device into power save mode.

In the TwainDeviceService interface, select Administration from the menu.

You can restart the device using the Restart system button. You can also shut it down completely by selecting Shut down system (the device can then only be restarted using the power switch on the device). Use Power save mode to set the device to the power save mode (the display is switched off).
All of the above functions cause a user who may be logged in to be logged out.

The Kodak Alaris scanner should have all the latest Windows updates installed. Without recent updates, the TwainDeviceService might not be able to access the TWAIN driver on the device.
You can perform the updates immediately directly from the TwainDeviceService interface (recurring updates can be set up using Kodak's own Kodak Scan Station Scanner Management software).

In the TwainDeviceService interface, select Administration from the menu.

In the Windows Updates area, click Install Windows Updates to start installing Windows updates immediately.
You can get the list of previously installed updates using Load Update History.
